Business is fundamentally about relationships. Business relationships are built on trust and mutual benefit. Marketing is the act of placing people of mutual benefit in proper alignment in order to facilitate exchange. Our Vendor outreach strategy is built around establishing and building this trust and mutual benefit. It is called a "Ladder" because it has multiple steps in which we ascend from a place of anonymity and indifference into a trusting and mutually-beneficial relationship
The first interaction should be a discovery conversation rather than a formal sales pitch. The objective is to establish what the business currently does, what problems it experiences, how it approaches customer acquisition and engagement, and whether Magic Toybox addresses a meaningful problem.
Lead temperature determines how aggressively we pursue contact, but observed engagement determines what happens next.
A particularly important Fieldwork milestone should therefore be:
Substantive conversation with an owner, manager, or decision-maker
This is more valuable for market validation than merely recording that a prospect "expressed interest." From that point forward, the prospect can move progressively through the survey, demonstration, field test, and LOI stages as warranted.
The resulting process keeps outreach lightweight for weak prospects while concentrating time and higher-cost validation resources on businesses demonstrating genuine engagement.
Looking for leads. Not necessarily even approaching people. Validating businesses as in existence and within scope for a given target series. This can include their industry, location, particulars like (near the highway, in the market, etc). This can be accomplished through physical presence (gathering business cards), online, through AI, etc. This is an area where AI-driven and in-person validated usually works.

A line of communication.
Outreach List - This is the inherited entries from the Prospecting list where the vendor is in-band, accurately-understood, and open to further discussion. Ideally, we want to have them on our waiting list at this point. We want to be able to send them an email, give them a call, and set up an appointment to talk further. The emphasis here is understanding their needs, not selling them something. This must be made clear, or the vast majority of contacts will end in rejection, and the contact will be harder to revisit later.
Customer validation is the step in which we discuss the needs of the customer. Our goal is to understand their needs in order to see if they are a good fit for Magic Toybox, or other companies. This is handled as a separated step because good needgathering has value even if it does not address our value offering. Validated, sound, ground-level data could be of benefit even if it does not benefit Magic Toybox directly and immediately.
Our methodology is found here. Our goal is to achieve a clarified vision fo a solvable problem that the customer is aware of. Outputs of this will map diretly to the feature list.
